ABSTRACT
Stunting in children is a significant public health problem in Pangkajene Islands Regency (Pangkep), with serious implications for children's health and growth. This research aims to investigate the implications of stunting on children's health and development in the Pangkajene Islands, with a focus on Minasatene District and Balocci District. This research was chosen because previous research on stunting in these two sub-districts is still limited. Stunting, as a developmental problem involving a lack of adequate nutrition, is a major focus in understanding the consequences for child health and development in the region. This research used qualitative methods to look at the factors underlying stunting through interviews and group discussions with 15 informants who focused on mothers, caregivers, community leaders, health service providers, and child health and nutrition experts. The research results show that factors such as poor nutrition, chronic infections, limited access to health services, lack of knowledge about stunting, and difficult economic conditions play a role in the high prevalence of stunting in the region. The impact of stunting can be seen in impaired physical growth in children and decreased cognitive function, bringing long-term health burdens and a high risk of chronic disease in adulthood.
